I shared some reflections a few weeks ago. Although I've been a Bible learner and disciple of Christ for many years, I do not yet have this walk figured out. It's filled with missteps and mistakes, and even when I re-read some of my prior posts, I can see how I could have represented the truth more fully and adequately. It is humbling to know that God still brings truth even in our tiny bit of understanding.

Today, we start a Bible study I've refused to write for months. It is a chapter out of my dark soul and a testament to the bright communion God showed me over a long, swarthy night. I know I need to sit still and get some of the messy, messy work God has graciously done down on paper. I dread it and welcome it all in one.

If I could only choose a few chapters to keep in my Bible, it would include Romans 6-8. They have been the most frustrating chapters (I lacked understanding) and the most liberating (I finally grasped the truth).

Exodus 18: Be Ye Wise

God has placed godly guardrails in our lives to keep us from falling into the ditch. Allow the individual(s) whom God has placed in your life to guide you. Proverbs 11:4 reminds us there is safety in a multitude of counselors. Surround yourself with those who fear God; absorb and act upon their wisdom, just as Moses did. And don’t forget: true wisdom always aligns with His Word.

Exodus 3: I Am

Warren Wiersbe’s comments about this verse are perfectly suited for those who are restless in their current position: “The man who was ‘mighty in word and deed’ is now in the lonely pastures taking care of stubborn sheep, but that was just the kind of preparation he needed for leading a nation of stubborn people” (emphasis mine). No matter what we do in life, it always has purpose. How do we know? Because Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things work together for good!
