John 15:8: Glorifying God

See this social icon list in the original post

“By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” John 15:8

“How can we glorify God? Not by adding to His glory or bringing Him any new glory that He has not. But simply by allowing His glory to shine out through us, by yielding ourselves to Him, that His glory may manifest itself in us and through us to the world.” – Andrew Murray

So often we try to add to God’s glory through our own efforts. 1 Peter 4:11 says, “If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

May we not, in our vain attempts, work to glorify Him. But let it be as in Zechariah 4:6, “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit.”

Praise

Father, we thank You that You are clothed in glory and arrayed in splendor! And furthermore, that You share Your eternal holy splendor with us, Your beloved.

Confess

Lord God, how quick we are to steal Your glory, or feel that we need to add a layer of “new glory.” Forgive us for working in our flesh to glorify You.

Petition

Gracious King, help the words we speak be the very words of God; the service we bring be done with Your strength; and in all things may you be praised! Help us not to work in our flesh, but to rely on Your Holy Spirit. Amen.
